Hello! I am Nicol, owner of Poetry in Petals, a micro flower farm and artisan florist based in the beautiful Surrey countryside.

With a childhood spent running barefoot and free on the beaches of South Africa, I have long heard the call of the wild and felt a deep connection with mother nature. Having relocated to the leafy English countryside, it was here, after experiencing a heart-breaking loss, that I stumbled headlong into my dream job as a flower farmer - and Poetry in Petals was born.

I love nothing more than whiling away the hours in the garden with muddy knees and dirt under my fingernails, sowing seeds and nurturing young, tender shoots until they burst into full, technicolour bloom - ready to be gathered at their beautiful best. From sorbet-coloured tulips and intensely-fragranced sweet peas, to whimsical heirloom flowers that your grandmother used to sow, by cultivating my own palette I have total freedom when it comes to creating elegant, seasonal bouquets and arrangements to brighten your day.

I also love sharing my passion and knowledge, whether that’s strolling through my fields with brides-to-be, revelling in creativity at one of my seasonal workshops, or delivering weekly bouquets to local customers. My aim at Poetry in Petals is for my flowers to play a part in life’s precious moments.

 PHILOSOPHY

I am passionately involved in the growing ‘slow flower’ movement, rejoicing in the delicate beauty and quirky nature of British flowers, using succession farming and organic methods to sow and grow in tune with the seasons – the way nature intended.

With a climate that allows us to produce a dazzling array of fragrant, colourful blooms and complimentary foliage for nine months of the year, making a conscious choice to purchase flowers that have been ‘grown not flown’ is an easy way to help the environment. Our flowers have no air miles, nor have they seen the inside of a refrigeration truck, and they have been grown without chemical sprays - making them a safe haven for bees and other pollinators. Grown with love and gathered by hand, they come to you entirely free of plastic – all our bouquets are wrapped in recyclable kraft paper and tied with compostable twine.
